Step 1: Begin by turning off the outlet’s power at the breaker. Then, to be safe, check the outlet to be sure there is NO power. You can use a circuit tester if you have one available, or simply plug in a handheld appliance like a hair dryer to confirm it won’t turn on.

IMPORTANT: Absolutely NOTHING should be done at the outlet until you have guaranteed the power is off.

Step 2: Next, remove the existing outlet by unscrewing the wall plate and slightly pulling the receptacle itself out from the wall so that you have access to its attached wiring. Tip: For anyone not super familiar with electrical wiring, go ahead and label the wires before disconnecting. Typically, the black wires are Hot, the white wires are Neutral, and the bare wire is Ground.

Step 3: Disconnect the wires from the existing receptacle; a simple snip of the wires should do the trick. Tip: For the Ground wire, you can opt to pull it from its position around the terminal screw rather than cutting it. Keeping the looped shape at the end might make it easier to connect to the new outlet.

Step 4: Now, strip the Hot and Neutral wires to ½” (there is a gauge on the device strap to make it easier to measure), before attaching all wires per the Installation Instructions.

Step 5: Once all the wires are installed at the proper locations, tighten each terminal screw.

Step 6: Now, gently push the wires back into the wall and screw the outlet receptacle into the wall box.

Step 7: Screw the wall plate subframe to the device and simply snap on the screwless wall plate for a sleek finishing touch.

Step 8: Turn the power back on at the breaker (and do a quick test at the outlet) to start charging!
